For Thetinsoldier.eu, a local manufacturer of tin soldiers in Antwerp, we had to print Belgian army soldiers in high quality. The intention is to use these later to make negative molds. These moulds are later filled with Tin to realise the final design.
Because the 3D models were incredibly detailed, we decided to manufacture them using the SLA printing technique. The challenge was to position the support so that front details and face are printed cleanly. As a result, we mainly placed manual support.
The details were so small that even the lightest support touched too much surface and ate up details. In the end, we narrowed the interfaces between light support even smaller in the slicer program chitubox. We have only placed Medium and Heavy support in crucial places.
After printing, these supports must also be removed carefully. Then we sanded the interfaces with P220 sandpaper.
The result is a detailed final model that is ready for mold formation.
