In collaboration with VML and Child Focus, we have created a unique 90 cm tall statue: Little Lady Justice.
The project started with a supplied AI photo, which we converted into detailed and technically elaborate 3D models: statue, text and base.
This model has been carefully designed and split into printable components up to 25 cm for production with our FDM 3D printers; after printing, the parts were seamlessly glued together to a smooth end result.
The statue is not only a technical work of art, but also sends a powerful message to victims of child abuse, sexual exploitation and kidnapping.
The statue symbolises an updated version of the classic Lady Justice. Where the original statue shows an adult woman, a 5-year-old girl is shown here. The blindfold, sword and scale remain, but the girl's young age highlights the vulnerability of the real victims: children. The image calls for reflection on the seriousness of this global problem and the need for a stricter approach.
The unveiling of Little Lady Justice coincided with the start of the trial against former radio host Sven Pichal, who is being prosecuted for possessing and distributing child abuse images. This combination of circumstances inspired VML to send a powerful message: the attention on this day should not only go to a suspect, but should mainly focus on the victims.
“A lot of attention will be paid to Sven Pichal's trial on November 18. But that day should mainly revolve around the victims: the children who are shown in those kinds of abusive images,” says Kasper Janssens, creative director of VML.
As well as symbolizing justice, the statue will also play an active role in future campaigns and initiatives. It will include being placed before the European Parliament, where Child Focus and the European Child Sexual Abuse Legislation Advocacy Group (ECLAG) are pushing for stricter European regulations. They are asking for measures that require tech companies to take proactive action against child abuse on their platforms, help victims, and remove footage.
In addition, an online platform has been launched: littleladyjustice.be. This is where victims can leave their name and age at the time of the abuse, as a way of giving recognition. The platform also offers referrals to help and advice via Child Focus's partners.
Little Lady Justice is more than a statue; it is a powerful symbol of hope and justice. It reminds us of the urgent need to protect children's rights and to put the fight against sexual exploitation and abuse on the highest agenda — locally, nationally and at European level.
