Commissioned by IO Digital, we produced a version of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Amnesty International is thus recording an advertisement that draws attention to migrant workers whose human rights are still being violated.
The cup was fully 3D printed and then finished with spraypaint techniques.
IO digital provided us with a concept image and 3D model.
The challenge was to make it 3D printable within a week and then finish it completely in color.
After we could print the model, we split the cup into 3 parts.
These parts are then printed on 3 different printers.
This meant that we were able to prototype 3 times faster.

The parts are FDM printed with PLA filament.
This makes them easy to glue together and update with filler and sandpaper.
For example, we have completely polished the countries around the globe to recreate the shiny effect of the FIFA cup.
Visible print layers are also sanded to obtain an even effect.

After the cup has been completely sanded, the seams and other artifacts must be filled with filler.
It fills the volume and is then sanded completely smooth with sandpaper with a grain of P220.

The cup is then completely dusted off and sprayed gold.
Then we covered the rings and coated them with primer.
After the primer, it was time to prepare the jade-like texture.
To do this, we used several layers of green spray paint.

Subsequently, the marble drawing also had to be added here.
To do this, we cut out several templates and then sprayed them with black paint.
Finally, we also applied a granular structure to the bricks.
